The Best Hotels on the Amalfi Coast

Through my lens, I've captured countless moments of pure magic along the Amalfi Coast, where every frame feels like a Slim Aarons photograph come to life. As someone who specializes in immortalizing beautiful moments in beautiful places, let me take you on a journey through the most captivating properties that dot this legendary coastline.

The Amalfi Coast's Most Enchanting Hotels

A Photographer's Perspective

Santa Caterina

Miramalfi

Villa Treville

Il San Pietro di Positano

Palazzo Avino

Villa Cimbrone

There's something utterly timeless about Santa Caterina. As the Mediterranean sun catches the white walls of this seaside sanctuary, you'll find yourself transported to an era of classic Italian glamour. During my stay in 2018, I discovered their best-kept secret: book for 30 nights or more, and you'll secure your own slice of paradise with a dedicated front-row seat at their beach club.

The property exudes an air of sophisticated luxury that draws an elegant, well-heeled crowd. Days here flow like honey – from morning dips in their crystalline pool to afternoon boat rides launching directly from the property. Their Michelin-starred restaurant Glicine became our nightly ritual during our five-day stay, and truthfully, we found little reason to venture beyond these enchanted grounds except for a dreamy boat excursion to Capri.

Just steps from Santa Caterina lies its younger, equally sophisticated sister. Miramalfi's crown jewel is its jaw-dropping pool, carved dramatically into the cliffside. As a photographer, I can tell you – it's impossible to take a bad picture here. The property attracts a younger, yet equally refined crowd, and their mixologists craft some of the most photogenic and delicious cocktails I've encountered along the coast.

Perched high in Ravello, Villa Cimbrone is the stuff of wedding photographers' dreams. The famous Terrace of Infinity offers views that seem to stretch into eternity, though be warned – they're quite savvy about unauthorized photoshoots. In 2023, I experienced their Michelin-starred tasting menu at Il Flauto di Pan, which proved to be a culinary journey as impressive as the views.

The "Pink Palace" of Ravello strikes that perfect balance between feminine grace and masculine strength. During a wedding I photographed here in 2024, I fell in love with not just the architecture, but the soul of this place. Friendly felines roam the grounds, adding to its charm, while the property offers the unique advantage of both Ravello's elevated views and access to their private beach club.

Here's where old-world glamour reigns. Men in dinner jackets, women in elegant resort wear, and a strict no-photography policy in their cliffside Michelin-starred restaurant Zass. I can tell you their opening pizza amuse-bouche is sublime. The tennis court, suspended over the sea, is perhaps the most dramatic I've ever played on. During my stay in the summer of 2024, the property was filled with sophisticated New Yorkers seeking refuge from the city's chaos.

Just outside bustling Positano, Villa Treville offers front-row seats to the coast's most iconic views without the crowds. The property embodies romance – I once witnessed what seemed like a scene from a film: a stylish American woman meeting her Italian gentleman for a sunset rendezvous at the cocktail lounge. Against the backdrop of Positano's twinkling lights, it was pure cinema.
